A comprehensive eye exam goes beyond determining your needed eye prescription. Our optometrists will certainly do that, but it is only one piece of your ocular health. At Willoughby Doctors of Optometry, we focus on providing personal care for your vision and the health of your eyes.
For your first visit to Willoughby, we ask that you wear your contact lenses and bring your current glasses and contact lens case, along with your BC Services Card (MSP) and insurance information. We will ask you about your current medication, medical history, and other basic personal information. All this information will be kept on file, confidentially, for any subsequent visits.
A comprehensive eye exam typically takes about 30-45 minutes, however, this can vary depending on the complexity of the exam and tests performed by your optometrist, as well as your medical history and any concerns you may have.
Your optometrist will take the time to get to know you, your lifestyle, and your visual needs. Sports, academia, and hobbies all have specific visual requirements. The questions we ask will help us determine just what you expect of your eyes and how we can help you get the most out of your vision.
We examine your vision through a variety of tests. An autorefractor is used to get an approximation of your prescription. Visual field testing assesses your peripheral vision. The optometrist will ask you to read words or numbers or identify images with one or both eyes to reveal your acuity.
There are a variety of tests designed to assess your ocular health. A slit lamp exam is employed to screen for developing conditions like cataracts or for understanding the cause of your dry eye. We use retinal imaging to identify any early indicators of conditions like age-related macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy.
When the exam is over, we always have time to answer any of your questions. We want you to be confident about the health of your eyes and the state of your vision. If you would like to know more about contact lenses, eye nutrition, or the results of your exam, we would be happy to discuss any topic of interest until you are satisfied.
After your appointment, our office staff can direct bill through a number of trusted insurance providers. If you do not see yours on the list, please contact us to find out more.
We would love to meet you in person.
